During an individual visit in Haifa, Israel, which lasted from October 21 through 23 this year, scientific institution Business Competence Center (BCC) signed several collaboration agreements on transferring BCC know-how regarding ethno products and ethno marketing to Romania, Switzerland, Israel and Cyprus. At the same time unilateral agreement on further collaboration in the mentioned sphere was reached with the representatives of France, Serbia, Bulgaria, Poland and two representatives of Italy.
In retrospect it is safe to say that World Folklore Union’s (International Union of Folklore Associations (http://www.igfunion.eu) granted trophy “Gold Star Award” (ex.Oscar) to BCC researcher Ernests Spics for continued achievements in the sphere of folklore promoted his international recognition as a representative of Latvia and facilitated the signing of collaboration agreements on the export of Latvia’s ethno products.
The awards ceremony took place on October 22 this year at the Aba Hushi Community Center in Haifa, Israel. The ceremony lasted for several hours during which the audience had the pleasure to listen to the speeches of several Israeli officials and foreign representatives, watch the performances of Israeli folk groups and view the presentations of I.G.F. “Gold Star Award” nominees. Ernests Spics’ presentation “Latvia’s ethno products in the distinguished master category” together with kokle music brilliantly played by Rozite Katrina Spica earned spectators’ admiration. The impressive awards ceremony was also broadcast on Israeli state television.
Two more activities were successfully implemented during the visit in Haifa. During the Board Meeting of the World Folklore Union Indra Filipsone, the official representative of Latvia in this organisation, and Ernests Spics introduced the representatives of folklore associations from different countries with Latvia’s ethno products by presenting the catalogue of these products.
Whereas the most recent sample of Latvia’s ethno products “Golden string kokles” that was developed by Rozite Katrina Spica, second year student of the Latvian Academy of Culture, was presented during the World Folklore Union’s seminar at the end of the visit.
BCC diligently worked before the visit to Haifa in order to gain maximum return from this trip. The preparation for the visit was commenced already in the beginning of the year. At first I.G.F.’s offered programme, as well as the circle of representatives, who plan to participate in the conference and accompanying events, were considered.
Then official representatives from different countries in I.G.F. were virtually contacted with an aim to launch collaboration on transferring BCC know-how regarding ethno products and ethno marketing to the countries they are representing. Only after receiving numerous affirmative responses regarding the interest to have an individual meeting with BCC representatives a decision was taken to organise a trip of BCC delegates to Haifa.
In order to implement all the mentioned activities BCC prepared an application of the European Regional Development Fund’s project “Export of Latvia’s ethno products” and submitted it to the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia within the framework of the activity aimed at the acquirement of external markets.
